This tavern was established in the 12th century, making it the oldest one in Oxford. Tucked away down a long narrow alley, it’s a favorite among locals as well as the out of towners in the know like me. 🙂 A sign in the patio reads: “Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Stephen Hawking, David Bowie, Thomas Hardy, Emma Watson, Ben Kingsley, Margaret Thatcher, Bill Clinton, Boris Johnson, Oscar Wilde, Ernest Hemmingway all bent elbows at this bar….just not at the same time.”
