I was recommended to this cafe by a salesman when in search of a SIM card for my IPhone. They didn’t carry them but he looked up a place that did and provided walking directions. He then asked if I needed restaurant recommendations for my stay in Leiden ( do the Dutch have hospitality in their DNA??!! ) After providing me with an incredible line up of dining establishments ( where he also offered to make reservations to ensure a good seat) , he suggested I have a drink at the Bar Lokaal as it was located right behind the oldest church in Leiden and a local’s favorite hangout for people watching. These gestures of welcoming kindness were not unusual and contributed to some perfectly lovely afternoons absorbing the culture and vibe of this city I am becoming to love.
