He’s the patriarch of the family called Mtukiza that our group was assigned to observe. Trackers leave at dawn to find them by searching for their evening nests and the trail of broken branches they’ve snacked on while headed to their new location. Once they’ve located them, they radio the guide to give the coordinates for our arrival. We trekked for about an hour and a half before we saw them and I have to say, there’s nothing quite like it. 19 gorillas make up the members of this family – and we got to see the youngest – 4 months old – being cradled by her mother.
