Eusebi Guell, a wealthy and prominent business man became a friend and benefactor of Gaudi’s and commissioned him to build his vision of a luxury residential park. Unfortunately the rich weren’t buyin’ it – it was too far away from all the major activity hubs and ultimately only 3 of the proposed 60 homes were sold. It still showcases some of Gaudi’s ideas for communal living – for example, a large open space is circled with curvy mosaic benches so that wherever you sit, you’re facing someone to invite conversations that create community.
