I thought it would be fun to stay at a nubian hotel on bigeh island renowned for its view of philae temple. It took several minutes to get the motor cranked for a boat that may have been built a hundred years ago to take me there which was a harbinger of things to come. The rooms were basic huts without windows made from mud clay just for starters. I can’t begin to describe the depths of my dismay as I contemplated the next four days here. As I sat on dirt floor patio after a shower with a hose, this pooch arrived and seemed to sense my anguish. He sat next to me on my patio every evening, greeted me at my door in the morning and cheerfully strolled with me down the path to the restaurant or boat dock where he was waiting for me when I returned. I think he intuited my departure because he sat at the dock watching me go until the distance prevented my seeing him. Dogs are the gravitational center of my universe.
