We’ve all heard an elephant never forgets and it’s true they have really good memories and are very smart. Herds are matrilineal ( adolescent bulls leave or are forcibly ejected to live alone or with 2-3 male buddies ) and the eldest female with the most experience becomes the matriarch. She, for example, will have memorized the shortcuts to food sources to help the herd thrive…ahhh…recognition for the acquired wisdom that comes from aging!
