Elephants have the largest brain of any land animal and the biggest portion is pre-frontal cortex which means they have complex emotions like compassion, altruism, grief and self awareness. They also demonstrate complex behaviors like tool use. Like this gal, who still hungry after being fed, walked over to the feeding area gate and lifted the latch to open it and head to the field for more grass. She was chided several times to stay inside but her persistence wore the care keeper down and she finally made her way on to the greener pastures!
