War Remnants Museum

The museum is deeply moving because it allows the victims of US military action to tell their story – for example, one room is an exhibit of war crimes like the Mai Lai Massacre where 500 unarmed south Vietnamese civilians were shot down by US soldiers. On the other side an exhibit shows photographs of the effects of agent orange. Most people will tell you that the jar of a preserved deformed human fetus is what tore them up but for me it was the photographs of the people who were actually born with unspeakable deformities and imagining what their lives had been like as a result. And the fact that Nixon refused to end the war while running for his second term so that he could take credit for “making peace” when assuming presidency at a price of an estimated 200,000 American lives sickens me. A tragedy of epic proportions.
