I took a “village” tour – hoping it would be just that – a chance to see rural life in a countryside village….sadly, it’s more of an Indian hustle. We headed to Visson village which turned out to be 3 stops -one at a home where a boy demonstrates the use of an opium pipe and these chicks taking their chai coffee break. Gee – surprise, they’re poor and a tip would benefit them and the local school! Then on to visit a pottery shop for jug making skills followed by plea to buy stuff from the surrounding shelves, and finally to the home of a durry rug maker where I was stuck watching some kid weave century old family designs with the inevitable tour of the warehouse where the villagers stored rugs for sale. I was so annoyed, I ranted to anyone who would listen only to find several other tourists had been burned in a similar fashion.
