these guys find clams to sell by diving down to the canal’s bottom and searching with their hands in the sand. Because they can hold their breath for a really long time it may be a full minute before they pop up with calm in hand. To keep boats from running over them they perch a long pole with bright orange or red flag at their dive spot.
