A Maori guide opens a large wooden box in the ground where meat is slowly cooking from the steam rising from the ground. Tubs are filled with the boiling hot water each morning to cool by evening for communal bathing. This home is built right next to a hot spring which keeps its inhabitants warm and cozy during the cold and harsh winter months.
