Maori were the first to arrive from the Pacific Islands and a concerted effort is made to honor first “ownership” of the land – which I found kind of weird because does anybody really own land? but I digress….they were warriors ( coincidently most of the star ruby players are Maori) and this greeting to the main square of Auckland sums their resiliency succinctly – it reads ” stop your sniveling creek bed; come rain, hail, & flood- water laugh again.”
