This city, while a little touristy, is one of the most charming I’ve ever walked. After dodging bombs during WWII, city leaders made a conscious decision to retain it’s historical character as a wealthy merchant hub – there are no franchises here ( I was told there was a McDonalds somewhere but I never saw it!) There are instead, canals, cobbled streets, medieval buildings, the town’s center, Brug Square, and Market Square with a 13th century belfry. Pictured above is the area referred to as Rozenhoedkaai – the center of where 2 canals meet.
