do I look like I’m clenching my teeth? That’s because the trail to Petra’s monastery is 3.5 miles and includes an ascent of 900 steep steps. The nightmare began when my cab driver told me about alternative route through the back of the site indicating a jeep could take me to the steps of the monastery rather than the climb from the entrance. Well – it doesn’t – I was dumped at the beginning of a narrow steep path up hill and told that taking a donkey would decrease the time to do the climb by an hour. A lie. And climbing those steps on this burro was terrifying…something I never need do again.
