The King of Jaffa had a daughter, Andromeda, more beautiful than the mermaids who, pissed off about it, appealed to Poseidon to destroy the city of Jaffa. He agreed and sent a deluge of sea water to drown the town offering the King a respite if he sacrifice his daughter to the sea monster. Seeing this as his only choice, the King chained her to a rock as an offering. In comes Persius who rescues her by chopping off the monster’s head and turning its body to stone…which make up the curled stones you see in the harbor today. I think it is really cool that someone saw those stones, created this fable to give them some interest….and got enough people to believe it that it became mythology!
